Who are we?
As part of the Giving Voice Rural Initiative, Timeless Voices Memory Choir is founded on the belief that group singing has the power to help people living with memory loss reconnect with family, friends & themselves.
Our mission is simple, yet powerful:
“To spark joy, boost confidence, and foster connections for those living with memory loss and their care partners.”
Research shows singing can have a profound effect on people with cognitive challenges. The area of the brain that processes music is different from the area that processes everyday speech, and is less affected by Alzheimers and other forms of dementia. So someone who struggles to carry on a conversation may easily sing entire verses of songs from their youth.
Our Team
Mara Schack
Director
Mara Schack is a veteran music teacher and owner of Tone Music in Owatonna. Mara has been a staple to the music community in Owatonna and has even been found on the stage at the Little Theater of Owatonna or singing at church. She is thrilled to be bringing this type of ensemble to the Owatonna area.
Sandy Brooks
Accompanist
Sandy Brooks has been playing the piano since she was nine yrs old and has always had a love of music. She started accompanying for school choirs and church in Jr High and has continued playing for various groups as an adult.
Music is therapeutic and she is excited to have this opportunity to do what she loves while helping those people with dementia find joy and purpose through music.
“My mother had dementia in her later years and loved to sing. She would have enjoyed participating in a group like this.”

Membership Opportunities
Timeless Voices is an inclusive choir for those in the Owatonna area and the surrounding communities. We invite people at all stages of memory loss and their caregivers to sing together.
No prior singing experience is needed, just the love of music and the desire to be part of a joyful and welcoming group. The repertoire of songs will be fun, familiar and uplifting.
We are seeking volunteers for other aspects of our ensemble such as directing people in hallways, setting up and serving snacks and greeting. We are also looking for key volunteers to assist with fundraising, marketing and behind the scenes work
